THE GICLEÉ PROCESS

What's a 'Gicleé'? Gicleé [pronounced zjhee-klay -- what can I say? it's French] is a recently perfected printing process that utilizes archival museum-quality inks and printing surfaces - anything from watercolor paper to canvas.

How It Works
The digital image file is passed from a computer to a printing device that has the capability to use fade-resistent inks (at least 70 years or more). The amazing part is that the number of droplets of ink per inch far exceeds any desk-top printer - we're talking millions. This extremely high resolution makes it possible to reproduce colors virtually exactly as they appear in the original painting and achieve extremely minute value changes.

The process is fast becoming the most popular method of printing due to its exact color matching capability, cost efficiency and relative ease of production (once you have the initial tens of thousands of dollars worth of technology and equipment of course).

How I Did It
I had the pleasure of meeting a photographer by the name of Tom Kutz in Collinsville, [that's in CT for anyone who's not aware] right down the hall from my studio at the 'Axe Factory' who specializes in color-correction and does excellent Gicleé printing. Working together with him, I believe these prints are the most accurate color reproductions possible. I have been extremely happy with the results and I think you will too.
